A friend of mine Yosu joked, "Who died that you're wearing all black the last few days?!"

This Friday.

Now Yosu's taking it a biiiiiiiit far as it's only been two days. But him saying that made me realize that without realizing it (when I put the clothes on), it's been two days in a row now that I've been wearing an all-black outfit. :)

Now I've made you all confused.

My friend Nining said, upon seeing me today at campus, that I look slimmer. And I told her it's all that black. That it possessed a "slimming effect" on people.

But then I realized that yesterday, even though I wore all black like today, I looked far than slim.

This Thursday.

I looked fat, even.

And so my theory that black has a slimming effect failed to prove itself.

After studying yesterday's circumstances again, three things can be inferred:
  1. Loose flowing tops, even though it's black, are not complemented with loose flowing jackets
  2. One should make sure that one has pants that are the appropriate length to pair with one's flats. I think mine weren't and could be 1-2 cm longer
  3. When one's picture is taken while one's carrying quite a big bag, make sure that one's hand(s) do(es) not look dead. I made that mistake a few times as you can see. Not promising I won't make the same mistakes though lol

But let's not think of them as mistakes...let's just say they're ventures. Fashion ventures.
Me taking a crack at looking good lol.
:D :D :D

P.s. Despite all that, the things that I do like from Thursday's outfits were the patterns on the top and on the jacket...

I couldn't help it they were floral!!! :)

Plus they really do look good (separately), which made pairing them both seemed like a good idea at the time lol.

The above sentence means literally HAPPY KARTINI'S DAY!!! :D

Today all Indonesians celebrate the birthday of our beloved Ibu Kartini, a national heroine most famous for her letters (later compiled into a very famous book Door Duistermis tox Licht--Dutch for After the Dark Came the Light), in which she expressed her views generally on the social condition at the time and specifically on women rights (especially Javanese).

Yesterday's day out with the ex captured by a camera phone but failed because it's blurred plus I was having a total bad hair day.

The ex.

LOL. Although I do think that I look rather ravishing in my new glasses, apparently my camera phone doesn't agree that much LOL. I look okay though in my opinion. :D

Anyways, I found my mom's scarf!!! :D

It doesn't really look it in the pic but it's a Sulawesi Batik print (Bugis) in a rich purple color with complementary fuchsia, silver, green, and orange patterns.
The red mini dress was also Batik and I'm definitely packing them both to Australia for AMUNC.

LOVE! :D

6:03 AM 4/19/2009

I have a runny nose that is triggered whenever I get into contact with water. When I went to take a wudhu, my nose began to run; after I washed my face in the bathroom sink, my nose ran again; after I took a bath, there it ran again. And it took such a long time before it stopped!

A usual ritual in my house is for the family to recite the Qur'an, tilawatil Qur'an, after the Maghrib salat/contact prayer.
So there I was yesterday, in the musholla with my runny nose, messing up my reading because of my inability to breathe properly.

When you read Arabic, there are certain length and tones and ways of articulating the letters, words and sentences. And because of that runny nose I wasn't able to inhale and/or exhale properly, which of course affects my recital of the holy verses.

I had a box of tissue on my left and every now and so often, in the middle of an ayat, or when I've finished one, I would blow my nose hard in order to get rid of all that mucus, although unsuccessfully I must tell you. This was okay when it was my turn to deliver the verses, but when it was others', I don't think one could hear what the other recited. Proper execution of the verses, in terms of how they are read and pronounced/stated was crucial in delivering the verses and its meaning correctly, and I was afraid that my blowing and sneezing prohibited the feedback that came in perfecting the delivery.

Yeah so I messed that up.

But apart from that my mom bought me new glasses!!!

We went to the optician yesterday to pick out a new glasses for me as my old one has been stolen, and my older one, though as adorable and as stylish [yes it is still in style ;) and I don't think it will ever go out of] as it is, is old. Hehe.

After a looooooooooooong, time of trying out glasses--there really were about 50 or so [no kidding!] glasses on the counter that I've tried on and all looked good on me [I swear you they ALL look GOOD on me! ;) Seriously though]--my choice came down to two pairs.

One was by Cartier and the other was Levi's.

I fell in LOVE with both of them, although my heart swayed more in to the Cartier's, the shape was unique, though both was rectangular, and both looked mighty GOOD on me.

But my mom was having second thoughts. And so we reasoned. And as moms are ALWAYS right, I went home with the Levi's instead and was incredibly HAPPY about it.

Whenever I caught a glimpse of myself reflected in mirrors, glass doors or in car windows and etc, I'd unconsciously smile feeling good about my appearance lol. This was really rather unwise as it was other people who worried that something bizzarre had happened up there in the attic. ;)

But having that new glasses reminded me terribly of my old glasses. It was Armani Next and had the brightest lime green rim and handles you've ever seen that it looked almost yellow at times.

I have never seen anybody wearing that glasses EVER in my life and I had thought that if not in the whole world, then in all of Indonesia I must have been the ONLY one who possessed that pair of glasses.

I cried in my room thinking of old Lemony [named after a favorite author]. And the fact that my room was the color lime green didn't help either and only pushed me into a deeper depression.

I had never found out where it went, where I lost it, and when.

It all remained a mistery.

A real ugly picture of me with Vada and Rora while wearing old Lemony.
I actually wanted to post another pic that was more appropriate (read: in which I look good) but this was the easiest to access (read: can be saved from Rora's friendster photos). :(

Lemony please come back to me I miss you.

And if there is anybody who's seen that glasses [its case was white and had a matching--lime green--lense cleaning cloth in it] I am willing to pay you a significant amount of money.

Please just give me back my Lemony. :'(

Teenage Angst.

10:08 PM 4/16/2009

Today was an unexpectedly horrible day.

Pretty ironic too as the day had started pretty nicely indeed and I had thought that it was just gonna be full of laughs and silliness and having fun with friends.., but turned out that I was wrong.

I won't go into details here else I'd succumb to my "teenage angst" mode lol. But the thing is:
it SUCKS fighting with your best friend[!].

I was in a bad mood all day and night and just simply couldn't
concentrate on anything else besides the fight.
On top of that, almost
everybody got a share of my mood. My not-really-ex-boyfriend, acquintances, associates and classmates, and even innocent passerbys!
I was making quite a show mind you.

As soon as I got home I called the "best friend" and gave her a piece of my mind only to find out that it was
all for naught.
Good thing I have Rora--my bestest and oldest friend in university that was closer to being on top of it all my personal psychiatrist/psychologist/psychoanalyst--was available to listen to all my problems, gave feedback, and even some fabulous suggestions to take care of the situation.

It had seemed as if some of the knives that were sticking out of my chest were pulled out and though bleeding, the blood was coagulating and the wounds were slowly closing. But still it ruined my mood for the rest of the day.

I had looked forward to Aikido practice to vent off a bit of my anger but found it VERY HARD to concentrate and ended up messing up all the moves and maneuvers and to top it off,
Sensei Hakim was being VERY ANNOYING indeed.
I hated him very much today.

Today was a
BAD DAY.

I wish tomorrow would be better.

The only good thing about today was that Matt didn't get eliminated from II. And even that I couldn't enjoy because of that lack of concentration.

I hate today very much indeed.
And I'm not exactly looking forward to tomorrow either for fear of running into the "best friend."
And Saturday's even WORSE!
We have
3 CLASSES TOGETHER.

I'm gonna throw up.

...oh PSAK 55, both the 1999 and the 2006 revision!!!"

Yes I sound deranged, but at this point deranged is a pretty good word to describe the state I'm in LOL.

I started working on the assignment at about 2:30 AM, and now it's 4:20 so I'm pretty beat by now. But hey! At least I'm finished! ;)

But one thing to be sure, that I am never gonna follow anyways LOL, is that working and browsing don't actually complement each other very well. :D :D :D
That is of course a very well-known common fact.

But I just couldn't help myself and ended up browsing for Iekeline (read: Ee-kel-een-ah) Stange instead haha!
It's just amazing how she manages to look so...surreal.
Maybe it's that hard-to-pronounce name and the CRAZY cheekbones and the pale complexion but most of all it's her style.
Absolutely ♥. :D

LOL. I'm on a blogroll. Seems kinda ironic because some days ago I didn't have anything to say in my blog, or even to the people around me.

It's crazy how the power of the mind works. And how motivated you are to do something when you're happy.

Anywaaaaaaaayys, I'm not a swimsuit person myself....
No, that's wrong.
Well I do wear swimsuits when I swim, or rather wetsuits, because I don't want to get tanned.
*Btw I've been meaning to post about being tan and its connection to the Indonesian "standard" of beauty.*

Photo by Michael L. Baird of bairdphotos.com

But I've been having my eye on these babies!!!

They're available on Bleubird, this vintage shop, but there are three constraints. The first is as I've said, I wouldn't want to get tanned. Second, they're quite expensive when converted into Indonesian rupiahs. And thiiird, they're vintage.

Vintage as defined by Wikipedia:

Vintage clothing is a generic term for new or second hand garments originating from a previous era. The phrase is also used in connection with a retail outlet, e.g. "vintage clothing store." It can also be used as an adjective: "This dress is vintage.

The word vintage is copied from its use in wine terminology, as a more elegant-seeming euphemism for "old" clothes.

The definition alone made me a bit squeamish.
Remember that this is a bathing suit, people.

Suspicions.

My heart is never on a deficit
when it comes to you
yet you are so determined
in stuffing
your design upon my face
impugning me
letting me take a mental beating
thrashing even
still I put up with you
concealing the fracture
slowly splintering in my chest
because my sorry is not enough
for you to drop it
and let it go
because you wouldn't understand
how it hurts
to be accused
and then indicted
that I was in fact
the accuser

It was just yesterday
the feelings still engraved on my mind
on my slowly shattering heart
your hand on mine
your embrace
I can still feel it
I can still feel you

Raising my hand in front of my face
and what I see is a reflection of yours
our fingers intertwined

You feel so close
in fact so far
distanced
as if on two different islands
separated by an ocean
of volcanic emission
and the lava rocks never cool

I long to reach you
but can't
we ourselves make that impossible
with all the little fights
we get into
but never get out of
only buried
laid to rest
and then awakens
a more ferocious beast than before

I am tired
Aren't you?

Really I'm not

But it's no use, is it?
You wouldn't listen to me anyways
You would always win
like you intended, like you wanted, like you planned
it in your mind

And I'd retreat to my corner,
like a terrified animal
whose tail is between
its hind legs
whimpering,

burying deep my feelings
only to have it resurface
in some other day

or the next time we meet again

Electricity Outage at the Dojo.

Earth Hour-Lights Out

No this is not an entry about Earth Hour. I just find the above pic appropriate hehe.

Last night's Aikido class was kindaa canceled LOL.

Because yesterday was the General Election for the legislative seats, I had previously thought that there wouldn't be any practice.
To confirm whether or not there would be a class, therefore I contacted my sensei and turned out that the class still commenced as usual.

So I went to practice in good spirits but when I got there, the dojo was literally pitch dark. The only light that came were from the headlights of my car and the dim streetlights.
I pulled over, still not entering the dojo grounds, weighing the odds of attending class or not. I was imagining a lot of horrible and unseemly things that could happen to a girl in the dark.

Still contemplating the chances, I strained my eyes to see further and found out that I could make out car shapes in the dark. That meant that there were actually students [or thieves] in the dojo.

I had made up my mind.
I was going in.

When I got there, the dojo's security guards were busy huddling over the power box in the wall. Turned out that the electricity's out, and the switch thingy that was supposed to turn it back on was busted.

I clutched my cell tightly; before I got out of the car I had dialed 112, the equivalent of 911, and my thumb was ready to press the call dial if anything bad were to happen. I went upstairs to the class and found out that my friends and senseis were there; the mattresses were laid out and the guys were putting on their robes and knotting their belts, which can get a bit tricky.

We sat down in the seiza position, meditating, it went on for an hour aaaandd NOTHING HAPPENED.

And so class was rescheduled today at 8AM. :D

YAY!
